The Hotel La Unión, founded in 1869, is located in a privileged place in the center of the city, very close to the José Martí Park. In addition to being one of the oldest hotels in that province, it is characterized by its neoclassical colonial structure.
The facility was built on farm land that belonged to Don Tomás Terry, a wealthy merchant, whose name bears the Cienfuegos theater. Because of its glamor, La Unión quickly became popular, and hosted internationally renowned guests, such as Russian dancer Anna Pávlova who would later visit the Hotel Inglaterra in Havana.
However, the hotel closed its doors for several decades, until in 2000, a capital remodeling brought it back to its full splendor. The building stands out for the variety of places to relax: two cozy patios, an outdoor bar / patio, a restaurant and the pool, located in an inner courtyard guarded by a couple of lions carved in marble. The Venus Negra terrace, of Hotel La Unión, offers wonderful views of the city and its bay.
